I changed a lot through out this project. Here was the original mood board...

I wanted something interactive or that serves a purpose. I decided to go with a person holding a chalkboard thought bubble.

I first painted the person white with the black stand....

I didn't like the direction it was going. We decided to cover the base with laminated paper (to serve as the back of my packaging as well) and use matte board to make the curve on the base I wanted from the beginning. I also added some character to the figure. I used fabric squares and mod podge.

Dan Nydegger, Project 1

For my project I came up with the idea for Break Up Bears. The concept is that when you are dating someone you tend to get/give little "sentimental" gifts. Break-up bears would be the same idea but for when you want send a different message. So for the prototype I decided to make the "You're Crazy Bear".

Break Up Bears-- When saying I don't love you just isn't enough.


These are the original drawings showing the different views, all drawn to scale.

This shows the beginning of sculpting the form. There is a wire frame that matches up to detailed drawings as the foundation, then clay is added to build the basic shape.

Next the clay sculpture is refined and becomes increasingly detailed. There is constant comparison to the drawings to make sure the dimensions stay accurate.

The sculpture is then "raked" to smooth out the large imperfections.

--I have skipped a couple steps here but will add them in later.

Here is the clay sculpture with the silicone curing over night. This will become the mold that the resin is poured into.

The resin cast model has been primed for painting.
I painted it with acrylic paint and then coated it with a really glossy clear coat to give it the final polish. This picture shows the model in the 3 main stages of clay, resin, and the finished product.
